Gabby Barrett premiered a stunning music video for the deeply personal ballad on her sophomore album, “Growin’ Up Raising You,” which offers a snapshot of the singer-songwriter’s life as a young mother. Barrett, 23, is expecting Baby No. 3 “any second now,” she recently confirmed.
When Barrett released her autobiographical “Growin’ Up Raising You” ahead of her full-length album, Chapter & Verse, the song started a “sweet trend” of parents sharing their own family moments with inspiration from the song. Barrett joined the trend, sharing at that time that “watching my babies grow up while growing up myself has been the biggest joy of my life.” Barrett added when the video premiered on Monday (February 5) that “it’s been a joy to see all the videos that y’all have created,” with the song, so she's releasing the one she filmed.
Barrett, 23, and her husband, Cade Foehner, 28, met as contestants on American Idol in 2018 and married the following year. They’re now parents to daughter Baylah May, who was born in January 2021, and son Augustine Boone, who was born in October 2022. Baby No. 3, another girl, will make her arrival “any second now,” Barrett said as she announced details for an immersive Chapter & Verse experience last week in Downtown Nashville, Tennessee.
“‘Growin’ Up Raising You’ is a very sensitive song for me, I would say. It talks about exactly what the title says, ‘Growin’ Up Raising You,’” Barrett previously said. “I’m only 23. I don’t have all the answers to everything. I have not got everything figured out. I am doing the best that I can, while trying to raise other people to be the best people that they can be. And so, it’s just so interesting and I feel so blessed to be able to have three little lives that I can help to flourish in life while I am also trying to figure out life myself.”
Barrett wrote “Growin’ Up Raising You” with Jon Nite, Zach Kale and Jimmy Robbins. She co-wrote nine of the 14 tracks on her sophomore album and co-produced the whole project with Ross Copperman, taking creative control unlike ever before. The long-awaited album also includes “Cowboy Back,” “Dance Like No One’s Watching” — a heartfelt ballad that includes powerhouse country artist Luke Combs in the songwriting credits — “Glory Days,” “You’re My Texas” and other highlights. It’s bookended with “The Chapter” to open the album, and the final, a cappella track. “The Verse: Doxology (Amen),” featuring contemporary Christian artist Phil Wickham. Barrett said when her album released on Friday (February 2) that she was “beyond thankful.”
