Reba McEntire posted photos with her boyfriend, actor Rex Linn, on the set of The Voice on Monday night (December 18). The beloved country star is serving as a coach on the smash-hit show for the first time this season. She shared her iconic red chair with Linn as the couple rooted for Team Reba.
McEntire wrote in her caption on Instagram that “The Tots” were reminding viewers of The Voice to cast votes for Team Reba that night. She was, of course, referencing the nicknames they have for one another. McEntire previously appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show, and shared the story of how she and Linn started dating — and how they got their nicknames.
Though McEntire and Linn met on the set of a movie in 1991, they didn’t reunite until just before the COVID-19 pandemic, in January 2020. That’s when they are both working on Young Sheldon, and Linn invited her to dinner. Afterward, they “went down the street to a wine bar and they said, ‘well, I understand you’ve already had dinner, but we do have some good appetizers…we have tater tots.’”
McEntire couldn’t resist the tots, so Linn decided her nickname would be “tater tot.” She calls him “sugar tot” in return: “We’re the tots… Sugar and tater,” McEntire said on The Jennifer Hudson Show.
Though many fans have wondered whether “The Tots” would ever tie the knot (the Not That Fancy artist even wore a diamond ring on the red carpet of The Voice earlier this month), McEntire has assured there are no plans to walk down the aisle at this time.
“That would be up to him,” McEntire responded, when asked about the possibility of marriage during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. “I’ve been married twice. He’s never been married. So, if he wants to [get married], that’s totally up to him.”
