Luke Combs joined forces with Morgan Wallen and covered the One Thing At A Time artist’s hit ballad, “Thought You Should Know.” It happened as the two singer-songwriters tied for a coveted award earlier this month.
Combs posted a video of his soulful performance on Wednesday (November 15), writing in his caption on Instagram that he’s “honored to be the [BMI] Songwriter of the Year alongside my buddy [Morgan Wallen]. here’s a cover of ‘Thought You Should Know.’” Wallen released the heartfelt ballad, serving as a letter to his mom, on his massive 36-track album that released earlier this year. One Thing At A Time also included “Last Night,” “Everything I Love,” “Man Made A Bar” with Eric Church, “Me + All Your Reasons,” and other fan-favorites.
Combs and Wallen tied for the Songwriter of the Year award at the 2023 BMI Country Awards earlier this month, “as each songwriter co-wrote four of BMI’s most-performed songs in Country music,” per BMI. Combs’ three consecutive No. 1 hits include Doin’ This,” “Going, Going, Gone” and “The Kind of Love We Make”, plus Zac Brown Band’s “Out in the Middle.” Wallen’s hits include “Thought You Should Know” and “You Proof,” and he served as a co-writer on Keith Urban’s “Brown Eyes Baby” and Corey Kent’s “Wild as Her.” Wallen — who also won the 2023 BMI Song of the Year award for “You Proof” — covered Combs’ “Going, Going, Gone” to celebrate the double victory.
