Kelly Clarkson said her relationship with beloved country legend — who is also her former stepmother-in-law — Reba McEntire will “not at all” be affected by her divorce from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.
Clarkson recently appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, and during the interview, host Andy Cohen noted that he’d asked the original American Idol champ about her split from Blackstock, her emotional new album (Chemistry), and her current relationship with her ex. Cohen had still wondered, however, about Clarkson’s relationship with former stepmother-in-law McEntire, and whether that relationship would be affected by the divorce.
“Not at all,” Clarkson quickly replied. “We were friends before Brandon and I, we even got together. …We text each other all the time.”
Clarkson added that she and McEntire texted back and forth before she agreed to serve as a coach on the upcoming season of The Voice, alongside returning coaches John Legend and Chance The Rapper and new coaches — the first-ever coaching duo — Dan + Shay. Clarkson, who credited McEntire as one of her biggest artistic influences, said she believes she and McEntire are both “women of sound mind that know that like, life doesn’t work out sometimes. …No hard feelings there.”
McEntire, now dating actor Rex Linn, was married to Narvel Blackstock from 1989 to 2015. Clarkson and her now ex-husband were married in 2013, and their divorce was finalized last year.
