Morgan Evans paid tribute to Jimmy Johnson, Tommy Thompson, and, of course, Tim McGraw for singing about them on his unforgettable 1990s ballad, “Don’t Take the Girl.” Evans took the stage with Brett Young on the “You Didn’t” artist’s headlining tour, and the pair teamed up to cover the McGraw classic:
“Johnny's daddy, was takin' him fishing/ When he was eight years old/ A little girl came through the front gate/ Holdin' a fishin' pole/ His dad looked down and smiled/ Said we can't leave her behind/ Son I know you don't want her to go/ But someday you'll change your mind
“And Johnny said/ Take Jimmy Johnson, take Tommy Thompson/ Take my best friend Bo/ Take anybody that you want as, long as she don't go/ Take any boy in the world/ Daddy please, don't take the girl”
Evans shared a clip of the performance on Instagram, capturing Young welcome him back to the stage and Evans begins the next verse of the 1994 hit, the crowd singing along to every word. Evans, who recently released his new 5-track EP called Life Upside Down, is currently on Young’s “5, Tour, 3, 2, 1,” along with fellow country artist Ashley Cooke.
