Charles Kelley shared a thankful message to his fans as he gets ready to kick off the “Request Line Tour” with his Lady A bandmates. The trio will perform the first show of the tour on Friday night (April 14), following a delay in support of Kelley’s efforts to stay sober. Lady A will start the tour with back-to-back nights at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.
“Tomorrow is the day! Kick off with two nights at [the Ryman] on the [Lady A ‘Request Line Tour’]!” Kelley wrote in an Instagram caption on the eve of the tour kickoff on Thursday (April 13). “I wanna thank all the fans who understood when I needed to take some time off to work on myself and push back the tour. I can say for certain that the show we have been able to create is the most personal and thorough show we’ve ever had in our 17 year career. I hope you all can come and share a moment with us on the road this year. Much love to [Dave Haywood] and [Hillary Scott] and all the band and crew and team and family that helped get me to this point. Feeling beyond grateful!”
Lady A announced on their social media channels in August 2022 that the group had made the “hard but important decision” to postpone the tour to support Kelley: “We’re proud to say that Charles has embarked on a journey to sobriety. So, right now in order to be the healthiest, strongest and most creative band we can be, Lady A will take the time with the support of our families and team of professionals to walk through this together.”
Kelley reflected on his year of change as he began 2023 in January, and said he was “really grateful” to others for sharing their own stories. The “As Far As You Could” artist — who penned the song to serve as his “goodbye letter to alcohol” — spoke with Men’s Health around that time about “my sobriety journey and fresh interest and resurgence in working out.”
