Listen To Darius Rucker's Smoldering Anthem: 'Fires Don’t Start Themselves'

Darius Rucker ignites a spark on his romantic new anthem, “Fires Don’t Start Themselves.” Rucker’s latest song made its debut on Friday (March 31). The release comes shortly after Rucker dropped hints on his social media channels. He recently sang a few lines from the song on TikTok, writing in his caption and adding a wink: “You’ll know soon 😉.”

“So, let's drink what's left of this/ Bottle of wine/ Move a little closer/ ’Til the sparks start flyin’/ Turn the lights down low/ And pull the Conway off of the shelf/ Then we'll dance through the kitchen/ And straight down the hall/ Let my old blue jeans/ And your sundress fall/ Girl, we're holding the lighter/ And fires don't start themselves”

“You know, it’s a song about that time when you’re sitting at home with your significant other or girlfriend or wife or boyfriend or husband or whatever, and you know it’s time. It’s time to get down to business,” Rucker grinned and laughed as he explained the story behind “Fires Don’t Start Themselves,” per his record label. “That’s what that song’s all about.”

Rucker’s latest anthem was penned by Ben Hayslip, Dan Isbell and Jacob Rice, and produced by Dann Huff. The country hitmaker debuted his latest track as he readies his forthcoming seventh studio album, Carolyn’s Boy, named in honor of his late mother. Rucker has already teased his next era of music with “Same Beer Different Problem” and “Ol’ Church Hymn,” featuring America’s Got Talent favorites Chapel Hart. Rucker’s record label noted that more music is “expected soon.”

Rucker is gearing up for his 21-date “Starting Fires Tour,” set to kick off in mid-June. He’ll span the U.S. and Canada with special guests on select dates, Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors and Drew Green. Other highly-anticipated live performances this year include the second annual HootieFest: The Big Splash with Hootie & the Blowfish, and the return of Riverfront Revival with Rucker’s curated lineup.
