Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real teamed up with “Heart Like a Truck” powerhouse Lainey Wilson to debut a new collaboration on Wednesday (March 22). Nelson announced as he released the duet that Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real’s new album, Sticks and Stones, is set to release this summer.
“Let's pretend we're more than friends tonight/ Let's pretend, and let each other in/ Forget tomorrow/ We can face the music then/ But I promise you tonight will never end/ If we pretend/ We're more than friends”
Nelson expressed that he’s thankful to have asked Wilson to join him on the song when he did, because later that night, “she won two awards and really blew up,” and might not have had the time to collaborate with him, he said, per CMT. CMT premiered the music video on Wednesday (including a special showing in Times Square in New York City).
Nelson, country legend Willie Nelson’s son, referenced Wilson’s awards at the CMAs in November. Nelson called Wilson to ask if she’d join him on the song while she was in her dressing room at the CMAs, where she took home the New Artist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year awards. The pair began to tease their collaboration on their social media channels earlier this month.
Sticks and Stones is due on July 14. Listen to “More Than Friends” here:
