Tim McGraw is getting into the holiday spirit and paying tribute to one of country music’s biggest legends at the same time. The “7500 OBO” artist shared a clip of his rendition of Merle Haggard’s 1970s holiday song, “If We Make It Through December.” McGraw deemed it “one of my favorites” as he shared his acoustic cover of the Haggard hit on his social media channels.
“If we make it through December/ Everything's going to be alright, I know/ It's the coldest time of winter/ And I shiver when I see the falling snow/ If we make it through December/ Got plans to be in a warmer town come summer time/ Maybe even California/ If we make it through December, we'll be fine
“Got laid off down at the factory/ And their timing's not the greatest in the world/ Heaven knows I've been working hard/ I wanted Christmas to be right for daddy's girl/ I don't mean to hate December/ It's meant to be the happy time of year/ But my little girl don't understand/ Why daddy can't afford no Christmas here
“If we make it through December/ Everything's going to be alright, I know/ It's the coldest time of winter/ And I shiver when I see the falling snow/ If we make it through December/ Got plans to be in a warmer town come summer time/ Maybe even California/ If we make it through December, we'll be fine”
McGraw’s social media followers praised the “perfect” acoustic cover, and shared nostalgic and heartfelt comments as they remembered their parents and other loved ones who loved Haggard’s music. Listen to McGraw’s spin on “If We Make It Through December” here:
