Charles Kelley shared an unreleased song that serves as his “goodbye letter to alcohol,” months after pledging to remain sober.

“I wrote ‘As Far As You Could’ with my band mate Dave [Haywood] and the talented Jimmy Robbins and this is the demo,” Kelley wrote in his Instagram caption on Tuesday (November 22). “This song was very therapeutic to write and I hope it can meet someone where they are.”

Kelley’s song quickly drew praise and support from his other Lady A bandmate, Hillary Scott, and Dan + Shay’s Shay Mooney. Many Instagram users expressed that they’re proud of Kelley and applauded the “powerful” and “beautiful” song.

Kelley publicly shared his efforts to stay sober earlier this year. Lady A, deeming themselves a “family” before they’re a band, opted to postpone their previously-announced “Request Line Tour” to support Kelley’s “journey to sobriety,” Lady A said in a statement at the time, adding that they “determined to do what will best set us up for many more years together.”

After postponing the tour, Kelley shared a family selfie on Instagram to “thank everyone who has shown me so much support and encouragement so far on my journey of sobriety. …I’m grateful for this time to focus on my family and my health.⁣”
