Kelly Clarkson powerfully performed one of Cody Johnson’s biggest songs when she covered the country hit on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Tuesday (November 8). Clarkson nodded to a fellow Texan during the “Kellyoke” segment with her rendition of “’Til You Can’t,” the sentimental anthem that pays tribute to the most meaningful moments in life:

“You can tell your old man/ You'll do some largemouth fishing another time/ You just got too much on your plate to bait and cast a line/ You can always put a rain check in his hand/ ’Til you can’t/ …If you got a chance, take it, take it while you got a chance/ If you got a dream, chase it, 'cause a dream won't chase you back/ If you're gonna love somebody/ Hold 'em as long and as strong and as close as you can/ ’Til you can't
“So take that phone call from your momma and just talk away/ ‘Cause you'll never know how bad you wanna 'til you can't someday/ Don't wait on tomorrow 'cause tomorrow may not show/ Say your sorries, your I-love-yous, 'cause man you never know/ If you got a chance, take it, take it while you got a chance/ If you got a dream, chase it, 'cause a dream won't chase you back/ If you're gonna love somebody/ Hold 'em as long and as strong and as close as you can/ ’Til you can’t”

Johnson’s heartfelt single earned him the CMT Music Awards Male Video of the Year honor earlier this year (he also took home the award for CMT Digital-First Performance of the Year, for “Dear Rodeo,” from CMT Campfire Sessions). He’s currently nominated in four categories at the upcoming 56th annual CMA Awards, set for Wednesday evening (November 9), including Male Vocalist of the Year, New Artist of the Year, Single of the Year and Music Video of the Year (the latter two categories are for his smash-hit anthem, “’Til You Can’t”).

“I’ve worked for over 15 years in the country music industry,” Johnson previously said in a statement about the song. “I’ve played just about every bar, honkytonk, nightclub, and festival there is along the way, with the goal always in mind of having my brand of country music played at the level to achieve a #1 hit. God’s timing is perfect, and here we are…. The road to this point hasn’t always been easy or fun, but something worth achieving is rarely an easy task. Thanks to everyone who has had a hand in making 'Til You Can’t' such a special song for me and my family. It means the world to us.”

Johnson is gearing up to release Cody Johnson & The Rockin’ CJB Live, his full-length live album, on December 2. The first one he released is “Human,” which debuted on Friday (November 4). Listen to Johnson’s live version of “Human,” and listen to Clarkson’s spin on “’Til You Can’t” here:
