Chase Rice has waited a long time to release his next song, and the wait is nearly over. The country artist announced on his social media channels that “Key West & Colorado” s set to release on Friday, July 29.
Rice previewed the song to sold-out crowds when he played acoustic renditions while he toured with Kane Brown. He also teased it on social media, garnering more than 1.5 million views, a press release noted on Wednesday (July 20). “Key West & Colorado” is described as a ”reflective song” that was one of the first recorded for Rice’s upcoming album (which he recorded during a “marathon at-home” recording session).
The “Eyes On You” singer embarked on a writing retreat in Grafton Beach, Florida, where he wrote the song with his childhood friend and longtime collaborator Brian Kelley, along with Corey Crowder, Blake Pendergrass, John Byron and Hunter Phelps. Rice describes the song as one that is “the heart of the record,” he said in the press release, which notes the lyrics of the post-heartbreak song:
“Somewhere between Key West & Colorado/ I found God in a gold Silverado/ Had to get a little lost to get a little found/ Learned you can’t find love if you can’t slow down/ Somewhere between that sand and the snow/ Salt in the air and salt on the road/ Finally let myself let her go/ Somewhere between Key West & Colorado”
“I had started writing songs at home with just me and a guitar whenever the inspiration hit me; instead of heading downtown and trying to crank something out during a scheduled writing session,” Rice said in the press release, recalling the difference in his creative process. “…It was an incredible experience.”
