Kelly Clarkson performed a stunning cover of one of Dolly Parton’s most iconic songs. The pop star and talkshow host performed “Jolene” during the “Kellyoke” segment of The Kelly Clarkson Show, which features Clarkson’s expertly-done covers across multiple genres.
This time, Clarkson performed the classic 1970s song that begs “Jolene” not to take her man: “Your beauty is beyond compare/ With flaming locks of auburn hair/ With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green/ Your smile is like a breath of spring/ Your voice is soft like summer rain/ And I cannot compete with you/ Jolene”
That performance marked the second time this month Clarkson has taken on one of Parton’s biggest songs. The “Heartbeat Song” artist delivered a powerful rendition of “I Will Always Love You” as a tribute to Parton during the 57th Academy of Country Music Awards on March 7. Parton hosted the show at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, and gushed that Clarkson’s performance was “so great! …I know that Whitney (Houston) is smiling down on us tonight,” Parton said at the ACM Awards. “She’d be proud of that. I was backstage trying not to cry my false eyelashes off.”
