Here's Why Jake Owen Is Hooked On His New Breakup Anthem

Jake Owen was hooked on his new breakup anthem from the moment he heard the song. The country artist finally released his new single, “Fishin’ On A River,” on Friday (February 18). The sentimental track reflects on a past relationship, missing the one that got away and taking to the bar — instead of fishing on a river — as he tries to forget her.

“I knew I had to cut this song the moment I heard it,” Owen said in a statement. “When you first hear the title, you’d think it’s a good ole Country anthem about fishin’ with the boys. Instead, it’s a love done gone, sway along track that most everyone can relate. Here’s to the brokenhearted chasing their blues away with Jack and Rye instead of bass and fishing line.”

The new song was written by David Fanning, Drew Parker and Cole Taylor, and produced by Joey Moi, according to a press release announcing Owen’s latest release. “Fishin’ On A River” follows last year’s “Drunk On A Boat” and “Best Thing Since Backroads,” and other hit songs from Owen. Those three singles “form the early foundation of a new studio album,” following Greetings From…Jake in 2019. Listen to Owen’s latest song here:
