Rising country star Priscilla Block made her debut on Kelly Clarkson’s daytime talk show on Thursday (February 17), and Block revealed to the iconic pop artist how Taylor Swift is the reason she has a career in music. Block, 26, admitted that in her early days in Nashville, she wasn’t sure how to make a career as an artist happen. She recalled being on the phone with her sister, when that day, someone special happened to recognize Block’s Taylor Swift t-shirt. Block told Clarkson:
“…I’m this young girl, I’m 18 years old, I have no clue what I’m doing (or) where to start. I’m about a year into town and crumbling, just day by day. I call my sister one day and I was like, ‘hey, I have no clue what I’m doing out here.’ It was just the whole, ‘if you come home, you didn’t fail. It’s OK.’ And that day, Taylor Swift was driving by, and I was leaving work, and I was wearing this Taylor Swift t-shirt and she was just driving by and saw me standing there, and was like, ‘hey, I love your shirt!’”
Now nominated for an Academy of Country Music Award in the New Female Artist of the Year category, Block gushed on The Kelly Clarkson Show “what is my life” as she reflected on that moment. Block credits Swift as her inspiration to quit her job, quit school, and figure out how to become an artist.
“I love that she did this …But she had no idea that impact that that would make, because you were thinking of quitting and that had to have been like, ‘this is a sign from God,’” Clarkson exclaimed, later saying in agreement with Block “No, that does not happen, that’s the craziest story ever.” Clarkson also noted that it’s very “telling of (Swift’s) character that she did that.” Listen to Block tell the story here:
