Jake Owen took to social media to reveal that he’s days away from releasing his next song — and he shared the first snippet of it with fans. “Fishin’ On A River” is a heartbreak anthem sees the country artist sitting in a bar instead of fishing on a river as he strives to forget his ex. Owen is set to release “Fishin’ On A River” this Friday (February 18).
This marks Owen’s latest release since “Drunk On A Boat,” “Best Thing Since Backroads” and other recent singles. His most recent album is Greetings From…Jake, which released in 2019. The 14-track collection includes “Down To The Honkeytonk,” “Made For You” and other fan-favorites. When he released his summertime song “Best Thing Since Backroads” last year, Owen explained that it “isn't a song at all about backroads, it's about her or him or whoever that significant other is in your life, or that one thing that is the best thing since backroads. And it's about shining a light on something super important to you. It's like the best thing since sliced bread. So, a it's got a good feel, it's got a good tempo and it's what I like to deliver in the summertime.” Though Owen is a pro at releasing songs with a summertime vibe, he also knows how to sing about post-split heartache.
