Kelly Clarkson put her own spin on one of Kacey Musgraves’ latest song, and the pop giant nailed it. Clarkson covered “breadwinner” as part of the “Kellyoke” segment on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Thursday (February 10), warning other women to avoid the man who “…wants a breadwinner/ He wants your dinner/ Until he ain’t hungry anymore/ He wants your shimmer/ To make him feel bigger/ Until he starts feeling insecure/ I wish somebody would’ve told me the truth/ See, he’s never gonna know what to do/ With a woman like you”

Musgraves released “breadwinner” on her highly-anticipated latest album, Star-Crossed. The15-track collection released in September 2021, marking the “justified” artist’s first album since she debuted Golden Hour in 2018. Though she acknowledged it as more than a “post-divorce album,” Musgraves delivers on the split anthems, and sought to release something that flips the script from her previous work. When she announced the album in August, Musgraves said in a statement: “My last album is what people know me for. They see me as this starry-eyed, rose-colored glasses kinda girl; the Golden Hour girl… Well, here I come with a post-divorce album, bursting the f***ing bubble.” Listen to Musgraves’ “breadwinner” here:
