San Antonio River Walk Lights Extended Through Valentine's Day

If you were not ready for the holiday season to be over and could use the holiday cheer a little longer, you aren't alone.

San Antonio's iconic Christmas lights on the River Walk will be lasting a little bit longer than usual this season, spreading holiday cheer all the way through Valentine's Day.

The announcement came from the San Antonio River Walk Association.

A Facebook post reads, "The famous holiday lights on the River Walk have been extended this year! Come down and enjoy the lights any time between Monday, January 4, 2021 through Valentine's Day 2021."

The 100,000 holiday lights that are draped on the trees lining the river will stay illuminated through February 14th, just like during the Christmas season, from dawn until dusk each night.

The lights had an early unveiling this past holiday season in mid-November by Mayor Ron Nirenberg. The Mayor cited 2020 as being a "tough" year for everyone, calling the early lighting a surprise for locals.

Nirenberg said during a daily COVID-19 briefing, "If you're like me, one of the things you look forward to most every year is watching the River Walk light up for the holidays."

The lights usually only stay illuminated until New Year's Day each year, and the lights display has been a San Antonio tradition since 1974.
