Charles Kelley reflected on the “humbling” experience of watching people react to his live performances of “As Far As You Could,” the song he wrote to serve as a “goodbye letter to alcohol” amid his efforts to stay sober.

Kelley recently hit the road with Lady A — with bandmates Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood — on the trio’s “Request Line Tour,” which offers a unique opportunity for concertgoers to weigh in on the group’s set list. The tour was initially supposed to begin in August 2022, but Lady A made the “hard but important decision” to postpone it to support Kelley’s “journey to sobriety.” The start of the “Request Line Tour” comes after a few international shows where Lady A recently performed.

Now, Kelley said that playing “As Far As You Could” for live audiences has shown how the ballad has resonated with others. He wrote in an Instagram caption on Wednesday (April 26):

“Everyone’s reaction to playing ‘As Far As You Could’ live at shows has been so humbling and now this song has already made me feel more connected with fans than ever before. Put together a little live video from a few performances we did over in Europe.”

Kelley shared a video of his live renditions of the heartfelt song, filmed over the course of three recent shows, including one in London, England; Glasgow, Scotland; and Dublin, Ireland. Watch him perform “As Far As You Could” here:
