Chris Janson’s latest performance of “Bye Mom” will tug at your heartstrings. Janson sang the heartfelt song on The Kelly Clarkson Show, and even the show’s iconic host told viewers to “get ready to call your mama after this emotional performance” from the country artist.

“Our next guest has emerged as a giant in the world of country music. In fact, Rolling Stone called him a ‘live legacy in the making,’” host Kelly Clarkson introduced.” Now performing ‘Bye Mom,’ the first single on his new album, All In, it’s hear it for Chris Janson!”

The sweet song takes the listener through stages of life, cherishing the mother-child relationship more and more: “I know that's just the way it is/ When you think you grown but you're still a kid/ And you don't know you're somebody/ That somebody loves more than themselves/ And there's a beauty in the innocence/ Of not knowing that the time they've spent/ Is more than one could ask for/ And that's a special kind of love/ And it's only there for a lifetime, then it's gone/ And it's bye mom”

Janson previously explained that “Bye Mom” has resonated with audiences in a way that none of his other songs have done so far. It started as a tribute to the late mother of Janson’s friend and co-writer, and turned into a tribute to mothers everywhere. He also noted that for him, it’s stood out as both a son and a parent. “I’ve never had a song do this before,” Janson said at the time, saying earlier that he’s “just really thankful to be the vessel that gets to carry that song.”

Clarkson noted, after the emotional performance, that Janson’s new album is set to release on April 29. Listen to Janson’s rendition of “Bye Mom” on The Kelly Clarkson Show here:
