Queen of Me superstar Shania Twain is often known for creating iconic looks, with stunning makeup and jaw-dropping fashion, throughout her decades-long career as one of the biggest country-pop artists in the world. Twain recently shared that she often finds herself inspired by others’ flawless looks, particularly gushing over the ones perfected by drag queens.
Twain has long been an ally of the LGBTQ+ community, and recently spoke with Anthony Allen Ramos of GLAAD (a media advocacy organization, with its acronym standing for Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) in an interview that posted on Thursday (February 23). The “Giddy Up!” icon, who once appeared as a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, gushed over the excitement of drag shows and the skill that goes into makeup and fashion.
“Drag shows are so fun! I’ve been to a couple of drag shows, big ones in Las Vegas. …I so admire the talent there,” Twain shared. “First of all, it takes a lot of courage. I mean…fashion in itself takes courage. You’re taking on a lot, and then the makeup — the ability to put their own makeup on, and do such a beautiful job — I have learned a lot from drag queens. I watch their tutorials. I’ve never seen such transformation in some of these talents that their faces go through, just through creative makeup.”
She added, of the fashion: “I’m very inspired by it, is what I would say. I think we need this inspiration. We need drag queens to share their talent with us.”
Twain is known for her own iconic looks over the years, including one unforgettable ‘90s music video, “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” which featured the award-winning singer-songwriter in a gorgeous leopard-print hood (she previously credited designer Marc Bouwer with the idea).
Now, Twain is getting ready to kick off her highly-anticipated world tour in support of her Queen of Me album, which released earlier this month.: “I just wanna be cheerful. I wanna cheer myself up, I wanna cheer others up and just get some pep in our step…just this feeling of feeling giddy.”
Twain told Ramos that she aims to perform classic hits in addition to new music from Queen of Me, in addition to songs that she hasn’t performed in a long time (or at all) when she kicks off the “Queen of Me Tour.” See the full interview here.
